چکیده
in a sand-fly survey, conducted for two years (1992-93) in ghirkarzjn, fars province a total of 1020 female phlebotomus keshishiani were dissected, of which 12 females were found to have promastigotes. promastigotes of six pb. keshishiani were inoculated to six hamsters and one hamster became infected, amastigotes were observed in the spleen, but the culture of parasite was not possible due to death of the hamster. of 141 blood meals tested, 28.5% and 57.7% of ph. keshishiani were fed on human and dog respectively. this is the first report in the world about the role of pb. keshishiani as a probable vector of thinfantile type of visceral leishmanjasis.

Phlebotomus (Larroussius) orientalis (Diptera: Psychodidae) as a probable secondary vector of visceral leishmaniasis in Kenya.
According to the World Health Organization’s reports, leishmaniases in humans are caused by 20 species of protozoa, belonging to the genus Leishmania1. The parasites are transmitted by the bite of a female tiny, 2–3 mm long insect vector, the phlebotomine sandfly1. Leishmaniasis endemic areas in Kenya are—West Pokot, Kitui, Machakos, Meru, Koibatek and Kajiado districts2–6. Kala-azar (Visceral ...
متن کاملPhysiological Age Structure and Leishmania spp. Detection in Phlebotomus (Larroussius) orientalis (Parrot, 1936) (Diptera: Psychodidae) at an Endemic Focus of Visceral Leishmaniasis in Northern Ethiopia
Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) caused by Leishmania donovani is endemic in northern Ethiopia, where P. orientalis is the most important presumed vector. This study was designed to determine the physiological age structure and the occurrence of Leishmania infection in the vector of VL in Tahtay Adiyabo district, northern Ethiopia. Sand flies were collected using CDC light traps from peridomestic an...

Background Establishment of sand flies laboratory colonies is essential to understand various biological aspects of Phlebotominae sand flies. The aims of the current study were to establish the colony of Phlebotomus sergenti Parrot (1917), the main vector of anthroponotic cutaneous leishmaniasis in old world, and to study biological parameters of this species. Methods The sand flies were rear...
متن کاملKnockdown resistance mutations predict DDT resistance and pyrethroid tolerance in the visceral leishmaniasis vector Phlebotomus argentipes
BACKGROUND Indoor residual spraying (IRS) with DDT has been the primary strategy for control of the visceral leishmaniasis (VL) vector Phlebotomus argentipes in India but efficacy may be compromised by resistance. Synthetic pyrethroids are now being introduced for IRS, but with a shared target site, the para voltage-gated sodium channel (VGSC), mutations affecting both insecticide classes could...

متن کاملMeasures to Control Phlebotomus argentipes and Visceral Leishmaniasis in India
Visceral leishmaniasis is a deadly parasitic disease that is transmitted via the bite of a female sand fly, Phlebotomus argentipes. The highest burden of this disease is in northern India. In 2005, India embarked on an initiative with Nepal, Bangladesh, and the World Health Organization to eliminate visceral leishmaniasis by 2015. With the goal of 1 case in 10,000 people still unmet, it is prud...
